Sunway Medical Centre, Maxicare Children Hospital, and Sing Specialist Medical Centre Join Hands to Serve the Cambodian Community

Sunway Medical Centre in Sunway City, Malaysia, has signed partnership agreements with two Cambodian hospitals—Maxicare Children Hospital and Sing Specialist Medical Centre (SSMC)—at the Sunway Hotel in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on February 20, 2025. This partnership aims to strengthen collaboration in healthcare treatment among the three institutions.
Through this agreement, patients who receive initial consultations and diagnoses at Maxicare and SSMC will have the opportunity to seek a second opinion and further treatment at Sunway Healthcare Group’s flagship Sunway Medical Centre in Sunway City, Malaysia. The partnership also ensures that patients who return to Cambodia after treatment will receive proper follow-up care from Maxicare Children Hospital and Sing Specialist Medical Centre (SSMC).
Additionally, this collaboration will see frequent visits by Sunway’s specialists to Maxicare and SSMC for consultations, bringing Sunway’s expertise and subspecialties directly to Cambodians. Specialists in Paediatrics, Neurology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Gastroenterology, and Orthopaedics will soon be conducting weekly clinics at both hospitals, enhancing access to specialised medical care.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by H.E. Ambassador Shaharuddin Onn, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Kingdom of Cambodia, representing the Malaysian government.
"Sunway Medical Centre is proud to be a trusted healthcare partner for Cambodia, working closely with healthcare stakeholders to enhance medical services. Through this collaboration, we aim to expand access to quality healthcare and provide Cambodian patients with a safe and reliable treatment experience at Sunway Medical Centre," said Dr. Khoo Chow Huat, Managing Director of Hospital & Healthcare Operations, Sunway Healthcare Group.

Dr Khoo noted that the hospital has been ranked in the top 250 hospitals globally in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals ranking 2024, as well as in specialties such as Paediatrics (top in Malaysia), Knee and Hip Replacement Surgeries as well as Cataract and Refractive Eye Surgeries in the Newsweek Best Specialised Hospitals Asia Pacific 2024 rankings and Asia’s Top Private Hospitals 2025 rankings respectively.

Founded 25 years ago to meet the community's evolving healthcare needs, Sunway Medical Centre has grown into Malaysia’s largest private quaternary hospital, with 810 licensed beds, 28 Centres of Excellence and over 60 medical specialties.
Upon the opening of Tower F in 2026 – its sixth block that will be a dedicated children’s medical centre – SMC will have a capacity of about 1,100 beds.
Additionally, SMC became the first private hospital in the country with three major hospital-wide accreditations, namely from the Joint Commission International (JCI) Gold Seal of Approval (USA), the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS), and the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH).
