U.S. Strikes Trade Deal With Cambodia Amid Ceasefire Pressure

The United States has reached a trade agreement with Cambodia, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced Wednesday night during an interview on Fox News, The New York Times reported on July 31, 2025.
The announcement followed President Donald Trump’s warning that trade talks with both Cambodia and Thailand would be suspended unless the two countries agreed to a cease-fire to end their border conflict.
Lutnick did not disclose the terms of the agreement. A senior Cambodian official involved in the negotiations, speaking on condition of anonymity, said they had not yet been officially notified of any finalised deal.
Both Cambodia and Thailand had been facing the prospect of a 36 per cent tariff on exports to the United States, one of the largest markets for both countries.
This is a developing story.
