Shangri-La Phnom Penh Soft Opens In December 2024

Shangri-La Phnom Penh finally is soft opening in December 2024, officially marking the Shangri-La Group’s debut in Cambodia. The luxury waterfront landmark hotel will start welcoming guests on 28 December 2024 with all of the amenities to be completed over the coming months.

A soft opening ceremony on December 16., 2024, was attended by His Excellency HUOT Hak, Minister of Tourism of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Neak Oknha Sear Rithy, Chairman of WorldBridge Group and Mr. Ching Chiat Kwong, Executive Chairman and CEO of Oxley Group.

Ody Odayappan, General Manager, Shangri-La Phnom Penh said: “We are delighted to mark the soft opening of Shangri-La Phnom Penh, a milestone that reflects both the city's dynamic growth and Cambodia’s growing tourism sector. This hotel is a testament to our commitment to blending modern sophistication with the rich cultural heritage of Cambodia.

Adding, "We aim to offer not just a comfortable waterfront sanctuary but a true experience that immerses our guests in the unique Khmer spirit of this vibrant city and the heartfelt Asian hospitality Shangri-La is known for. As we look ahead to our full opening in 2025, we are excited to contribute to Phnom Penh's tourism, business, and cultural development while continuing our efforts to integrate into the local community.”

We wrote in April of this year asking if the long-anticipated wait for the Shangri-La Hotel would see light before the end of 2024, and it has, just.

Shangri-La Phnom Penh is part of one of the tallest tri-tower architectural structures in the Cambodian capital and reaches 228 metres high. The hotel has a Khmer-inspired design and in total offers 303 rooms with panoramic river views of the confluence of the Mekong, Tonle Sap, and Tonle Bassac rivers, dining experiences featuring local and international cuisine, and facilities including a large ballroom, infinity pool, and spa.

In terms of the Shangri-La Phnom Penh design, the hotel’s interior aesthetics are a "harmonious blend of Art Deco, Neo-Classical, and Khmer cultural elements, while the room interiors feature wood accents, natural stones, and natural daylight from the floor-to-ceiling windows.
