The Securities and Exchange Regulator of Cambodia (SERC) held its 27th Training, Examination and Continuing Professional Education (CPE) program in the securities sector, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of securities firms, issuers, and service providers within the Cambodian securities sector, from February 26 to March 7, 2024.
The program was specifically tailored for securities firms, firms engaged in collective investment schemes (CIS), issuers, firms involved in derivative business, and firms providing services in the Cambodian securities sector.
During his opening remarks, H.E. Sou Socheat, Director General of the SERC, shared that the SERC has, thus far, issued licensed accreditation to 130 local and international companies in Cambodia.
Who Is Eligible For The SERC Training Program?
The SERC has held training courses and examinations since 2010. One of SERC's key priorities is to enhance professionalism among market participants through regular training programs, including the mandatory Training and Examination for Approved Persons and the Continuing Professional Education (CPE) program.
Although the Training and Examination for Approved Persons is designed for individuals working in companies involved in the securities sector – including senior and technical staff, as well as other key employees – members of the public are also eligible to apply. The sessions focused on the current regulatory framework and other relevant topics within the Cambodian securities sector.
Passing The SERC Training Program Examination For Qualification
Following the training, participants are given an examination administered by the SERC. To be eligible to take the exam, participants must demonstrate a minimum 60 per cent attendance. If the exam is successfully passed, participants must take part in the follow-up CPE program to maintain high professional standards and stay updated on new regulations and developments. The CPE program is intended to ensure continuous learning and is required to be taken every two years.
Renewal of qualification requires a minimum attendance of 80 per cent in the CPE program.
The SERC organises this training program at least twice a year, covering the entire Cambodian securities market system. Training sessions are conducted in Khmer with live English translation available. The regulator invites all individuals who are interested in learning more about the securities sector. Application forms for the Training and Examination for Approved Persons and CPE programs can be found on the SERC website and on the official SERC Facebook page.
