Sequoia And MR Training And Jobs Centre Co-Host Cambodia HR Summit 2024
Following the success of 2023's Leadership for Good Summit, Sequoia Group and MR Training and Jobs Centre (MRTJC) organised the HR Summit 2024 at the Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh on August 17. Held under the theme “Navigating Talent Management, Succession Planning, and Leadership Development in a Digital Era”, the summit aimed to bolster Cambodia’s human capital development.
The summit brought together executive leaders, HR professionals, and industry thought leaders for a day of dynamic discussions and action-learning workshops centred on practical strategies for talent and leadership development, as well as succession planning.
H.E. Hun Many, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Ministry of Civil Service, presided over the summit's opening ceremony, and gave remarks providing strategic insights into Cambodia's human capital development. He emphasised the critical need for talent cultivation to fuel the country's economic growth in the years ahead.

The summit’s agenda featured a panel discussion titled “Uncovering the Essential Competencies for Tomorrow's Business Landscape: Developing the Future Leader”, with contributions from Neak Oknha Sear Rithy, Chairman of Worldbridge Group of Companies; Jacqueline Wong, Founder and Managing Director of Sequoia Group, Singapore; and Jimmy Ong, Managing Partner of Nucleus Advisory from Malaysia.
Keynote speeches and presentations were also delivered on promoting human capital development as the cornerstone of sustainable growth, talent management trends and its critical importance, and what specific challenges and opportunities lie in these within the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.
Interactive workshops on fostering an engaging leadership culture and facilitating impactful talent conversations at the board level allowed attendees to dive deeper into the challenges faced by HR leaders and explore how they can assume a more strategic role within their organisations to facilitate leadership development and succession planning.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between Sequoia Group and MRTJC, outlining collaboration in five key areas: People and Talent Development, Leadership and Organisation Development, Sustainability, Communities of Practice (CoP) for HR Professionals, and Knowledge Co-Creation in areas of mutual interest. The MoU is expected to further solidify a shared dedication to fulfilling the human capital development needs of both the public and private sectors in Cambodia.
Additionally, four specialised masterclasses on people, talent, leadership, and organisation development were held to provide leaders with the in-depth knowledge, tools, and processes to strengthen their strategies for business and people transformation.
In the current age of rapid technological change, new industries, sectors, and opportunities are emerging. The future of work requires a new set of cognitive, people, technological, and management skills. Equipping the Cambodian workforce with these skills to navigate this landscape will be imperative for the expansion of economic opportunity and for Cambodia to reach its goal of becoming a high-income country by 2050.
