Securities And Exchange Regulator Of Cambodia And Lao Securities Commission Office Hold 2nd Bilateral Meeting And Experience Sharing Seminar
On May 16, 2024, the Securities and Exchange Regulator of Cambodia (SERC) and the Lao Securities Commission Office (LSCO) held the second bilateral meeting and experience sharing seminar between the two regulatory bodies, in Vang Vieng District of Vientiane Province, Lao PDR.
The Cambodian delegation was led by H.E. Sou Socheat, Director General of the SERC – with the permission of H.E. Dr. Aun Porn Moniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance, and Chairman of the Non-Bank Financial Services Authority – while the the Lao delegation was led by Fongchinda Sengsourivong, Secretary-General of LSCO.
The main goal of this meeting was to strengthen bilateral relations between the two regulators through the exchange of information on the current state of securities market development, and a discussion on the 2024 Cooperation Plan.
Additionally, the SERC also shared its experiences related to securities education promotion, such as its project to promote knowledge on securities, as well as the establishment of a credit rating agency in Cambodia, the expansion and supervision of domestic and foreign investors, and the implementation of a regulatory framework related to administrative sanctions in the securities sector.
“As we embark on this tight cooperation, let us do so with a spirit of openness, mutual respect, and a shared determination to overcome challenges and seize opportunities," said Socheat. "I am confident that through this bilateral relationship, our collective efforts will pave the way for significant advancements and a prosperous future for both authorities.”
Sengsourivong also added, “I am very pleased to observe that, the knowledge and valuable experiences shared from both authorities have enriched and equipped participants with information that could apply and contribute to the development of our capital markets. We are fully confident that the strong relationship and fruitful cooperation between our two authorities will further develop and flourish for the benefit of the two countries as well as that of regional and international development cooperation.”
The meeting and seminar were attended by high-level managements and officials from the relevant departments of both regulators, in the spirit of strengthening bilateral and regional bonds and serving the people of both nations.
The third bilateral meeting between the two regulatory bodies will be hosted by the SERC in 2025.
