Sathapana Bank officially launched the new ‘Sathapana Mobile’ app on April 27, 2025 at Aeon Mall Sen Sok, with intuitive features and functionalities that seek to provide greater customer convenience and accessibility across Cambodia.

The launch event at Aeon Mall Sen Sok featured a live Sathapana Mobile app demo,  live music and magic performances, giveaways, a lucky draw, a family fun zone, as well as other exciting engagement activities.

As one of the leading commercial banks in Cambodia with 175 branches across the country and close to 1 million customer accounts, Sathapana Bank maintains a customer-centric ‘digital first’ strategy reflecting the growing financial needs of an increasingly digitalised society.

“We really take a lot of pride and effort to make sure that our digital strategy really pays back to our customers,” said Arvid Swartsenburg, Deputy CEO of Sathapana Bank, in an interview with B2B Cambodia.

The app also allows new customers to open an account with Sathapana Bank, anytime and anywhere, just using their smartphone and national ID.

“The new app launch is centred around three themes – first is convenience, second is personalisation, and third is security; we're really trying to bring something new to the market,” Swartsenberg added.

First and foremost, the app is very simple, very intuitive. We've rearranged some features and functionalities to make it more easy for customers to use. Second, it's an all-in-one bank experience, it's the bank in your pocket, essentially. You have savings, you have loans, you have payments, you have cards, access to all the products.

Elaborating further on the products made easily available through the app, Swartsenburg highlighted Sathapana Bank’s ‘EasyCash’ lending program, which allows customers to take out loans against term deposits, and also mentioned that the app has a new chatbot-enabled loan assessment.

“This is a new feature that we're looking to expand, and not just for loan assessment. In the future, we'll have more interactions like servicing through the chatbot,” he said.

Overall, the new app also has a dynamic interface with widgets and new backgrounds that allow customers to personalise their mobile banking experience.

In terms of security, Swartsenburg underlined the app’s standard end-to-end encryption and biometric security system allowing customers to login and make payments through fingerprint or facial scan.

“Fraud detection is also key, especially when it comes to digital, you have to make sure that the security aspect is really there, so real-time fraud detection and security alerts are something we’ve built into the app to give customers more visibility and transparency on some of the transactions that they're making,” he added.

Swartsenburg emphasised that the launch of the new ‘Sathapana Mobile’ app falls strongly in line with Cambodia’s National Financial Inclusion Strategy and Digital Economy Framework.

“First and foremost, of course, the app is available in the Khmer language, so it's easy to use and read. We also have three other languages in the app – English, Japanese and Chinese – so that there's more accessibility for a wide range of clients,” he shared.

We've taken the friction of onboarding out of the equation as well, so there's no more paperwork and cumbersome processes you need to take in order to acquire an account. Any Cambodian can basically sign up in five minutes and deposit money and use it digitally.

“Things like payments are very important; bill payments, micro loans; so that unbanked or underbanked individuals have access to some of these financial solutions, which can help them then access a better lifestyle and overall banking. That's very important for us in order to make sure that Cambodia grows, and I think digital is a key part of our strategy to make sure we make even a small contribution doing this,” Swartsenburg concluded.
