Phillip Bank Donates “Riel Stories” Books to 25 Schools in Rural Communities

As part of PhillipCapital Singapore’s 50th anniversary and its commitment to community empowerment through financial literacy, Phillip Bank held a “Riel Stories for Communities” event at Botum Soriya Primary School.
The event marks the official donation of the book series to 25 schools located in the operating areas of Koampia Phum Yoeung (KPY), a local non-profit organisation dedicated to education and rural development.
Riel Stories is a specially curated children’s book designed to introduce young readers, aged between 9-12 years old, to the importance of financial literacy in a fun and relatable way. The book features real-life financial lessons shared by PhillipCapital Cambodia staff. With vibrant illustrations and culturally relevant storytelling, the book aims to inspire Cambodian children to dream big and make informed choices about money and the future.
“We believe that financial literacy should begin at a young age, and through Riel Stories, we hope to ignite curiosity and build confidence in students as they learn about saving, spending, and planning,” said Chan Mach, Phillip Bank Chief Executive Officer who attended the hand-over ceremony.
In addition to the book donation, a fundraising campaign was also initiated among PhillipCapital Cambodia staff further to support KPY’s educational and community development efforts. Over 200 employees across the organisation participated, demonstrating a strong sense of social responsibility and unity. The funds raised were directly contributed to KPY to help sustain their impactful work in rural areas.
“These books will not only improve access to financial literacy in our target communities but also help children see that learning can be joyful and relevant to their daily lives. We are proud to partner with PhillipCapital Cambodia through this donation drive, which contributes to positive impacts on long-term community development,” said Chan Sokky, KPY Director.
The ceremony was attended by local community school council, school directors as well as staff from both institutions. Parents of the students also joined the celebration, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere. During the event, participants also met selected writers of Riel Stories book and watched a meaningful role play on financial literary-all in an interactive and memorable way.
