Royal Group Funds, under the Royal Group  of Companies, announced the launch of two new Collective Investment Scheme (CIS) funds on November 29, 2024 at the Wing Bank Tower,  broadening the existing range of investment products currently available in the market, with the intention of further developing Cambodia’s capital markets for the benefit of both existing and new professional investors.

The launch event was presided over by H.E. Sou Socheat, Director General of the Securities and Exchange Regulator of Cambodia (SERC), as well as Neak Oknha Kith Meng, Chairman and CEO of Royal Group. A presentation on the two funds was also delivered by Thomas Schings, General Manager of Royal Group Funds.

The two private CIS funds launched are said to be ‘open-ended’ and designed to give professional investors the opportunity to benefit from Cambodia’s robust economic development. Royal Group describes the two funds as follows:

  1. Fixed Income Fund: an open-ended fund designed to deliver stable returns. It primarily focuses on investing in high-quality instruments such as bonds and fixed deposits of licensed financial institutions operating within the Kingdom of Cambodia. The diversified approach ensures risk mitigation whilst capitalising on the robust growth potential and economic stability of the Cambodian financial market.
  2. Distressed Assets Fund: an open-ended fund designed to deliver above-market returns by capitalising on market inefficiencies along with opportunities regarding misvalued assets. The fund both strategically identifies and invests in distressed assets by leveraging comprehensive market analysis and expert asset management. It may look for opportunities to leverage its balance sheet and experience to ensure investors benefit from the potential higher returns that they can deliver.

The two funds have very different risk profiles, but both adopt a stringent investment criteria combined with ‘hands on’ active management to analyse and then maximise each potential investment opportunity.

In the future, Royal Group Funds says it hopes to develop similar funds open to the wider investing public so that everyone can have the chance to benefit from Cambodia’s successes.
