ItaCham Commemorates First Italian Space Day In Cambodia At CamEd Business School
The Italian Business Chamber of Cambodia (ItaCham) organised three days of events for Italian Space Day (Giornata Nazionale dello Spazio) from December 14-16, 2024, at CamEd Business School. This marked the first time the chamber commemorated Italian Space Day in the Kingdom, which occurs every year on December 16.
The three-day event was composed of an expo in the main hall of CamEd Business School, showcasing craftsmanship related to Khmer Apsaras, conceptual Space Apsara paintings, along with video materials on Italy in Space, provided in-kind by the Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (Italian Space Agency).
A main highlight of the event was a hybrid panel discussion session held on December 15, which was moderated by Dr. Riccardo Corrado, Vice-Chairman and Associate Professor at CamEd Business School, and centred on four main topics. The first focused on laying out Cambodia's investment ecosystem and exploring what has been done so far in the country's space sector. H.E. Lor Tith Chansopheak from the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and Cheat Morokot from the Satellites Department of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC), contributed their thoughts.
The second topic explored different applications that are currently benefitting Italy and Singapore, and which could be relevant to the Cambodian context, featuring input from Stefano Natali from MEEO S.r.l, Fabio A. Cardani from Nplus S.r.l., and Dr. Seanglidet Yean from the Singapore-ETH Centre.
The third theme concerned research, academia and collaboration, and saw Professors Stefano Seriani and Anna Gregorio from the Università degli Studi di Trieste, as well as Professor Sarot Srang from the Institute of Technology of Cambodia, discuss the RISE Project conducted in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) and past and ongoing activities related to the space sector in Cambodia.
Finally, the panel discussion session wrapped with advisor Anilkumar Dave speaking about ‘space economy’, lessons learned, and tips for how a developing country like Cambodia can potentially initiate a domestic space economy.
ItaCham expresses its gratitude to all event sponsors and supporters, including CamEd Business School, Nplus S.r.l., Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI), Boncafe (Cambodia) Ltd., Angkor Art Gallery, Cambodianess, B2B Cambodia, and Cambodia Investment Review. The chamber also extends special thanks to Silvia Ciccarelli and the Italian Space Agency for providing support and material for the exposition.
