How to apply for Cambodian Family & Residence books, ID cards

The process for Cambodians and foreign nationals who hold Cambodian citizenship to renew and/or apply for Family and Residence books, as well as Cambodian identification cards has been communicated by Phnom Penh municipalities.  It was reported in August 2021, that 600 foreigners have received their Cambodian citizenship between June 2020 and mid-2021.

Cambodian ID Card

Cambodian citizens whose ID cards have expired, and those who have reached the age of 15, can renew or apply for their Cambodian ID at any of the following locations in Phnom Penh:
  • District police stations in their respective Sangkats
  • The dedicated centre, located on the second floor of the Aeon Mall II in Sen Sok
  • At the municipal police headquarters.
The individual will need to bring with the following:
  • Those born in Cambodia should bring a copy of their birth certificate or the resident book or family book.
  • Foreigners who have been naturalised with Cambodian citizenship need to bring along the royal decree certifying this.

Cambodian Residence Book Renewal

Cambodians looking to renew, or apply for a residence book, need to bring:
  • Copy of birth certificate or certificate of live birth,
  • Cambodian National ID card,
  • Marriage certificate if they are married,
  • Letter certifying their relocation from their former commune police if they have relocated recently.

Cambodian Family Book Renewal

Cambodians looking to renew, or apply for a family book, need to bring:
  • A residence book,
  • Copy of birth certificate or certificate of birth,
  • Cambodian National ID card,
  • Marriage certificate.
