How To Apply For A Chinese Visa In Phnom Penh
The Phnom Penh Chinese Visa Application Service Centre opened in Cambodia's capital in Q1 2024, located at the Flatiron by Meridian on the 10th floor, and all regular passport holders need to use their services and not the China Embassy for visa applications.
New Chinese Visa Application Centre in Phnom Penh
All Cambodians & foreign nationals wanting to apply for visas to China are required to submit their applications via this centre and not the Chinese embassy (if regular passport holders) from the end of March 2024.
At the opening ceremony of the centre, Ambassador Wang Wentian suggested the Chinese embassy was no longer able to meet the needs of Cambodian citizens & foreign nationals for visa applications which is why a proper visa application centre in Phnom Penh had been established.
According to the official website for the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre in Phnom Penh, the centre was opened to "better serve the people-to-people exchanges between China and Cambodia, and provide applicants with more comfortable and convenient visa application condition and more professional and efficient consular certificate services".
What To Know – Applying For A Chinese Visa In Cambodia
To accept visa and authentication applications of ordinary passport holders, the centre advises the following:
- The Chinese embassy in Phnom Penh will no longer directly accept visa applications from ordinary passport holders.
- Those who hold diplomatic or service/official passports or applying for Chinese diplomatic, courtesy, or service visas shall still submit an application directly to the embassy.
- The Visa Application Center will collect the governmental fees and expedited or express fees (which remain the same as before) on behalf of the embassy. The Visa Application Center charges a service fee - the website of the Visa Application Center outlays all of the fees.
- The Visa Application Center has no decision on visa approval. The Embassy will decide whether to issue a visa, its validity, duration of stay and number of entries based on the applicant's personal circumstances. The consular officer may request the applicant to provide additional supporting documents or supplementary materials according to the specific situation, or an interview.
Chinese Visa Fees
Applicants are required to pay all the fees, including visa fee and service fee.
- The Visa Application Centre accepts cash, debit and credit cards. The service fee is non-refundable regardless of the result of certification.
