Heritage Group Acquires Majority Stake In Khmer Green Charcoal: Advancing Sustainable Innovation In Cambodia
Heritage Group has announced a strategic investment in Khmer Green Charcoal Co., Ltd. (KGC), a pioneering Cambodian enterprise transforming coconut shells and other agricultural waste into sustainable charcoal products.
Charcoal has long been part of Cambodian cooking culture. Through KGC’s innovative approach, it can now be produced sustainably without harming the environment. KGC was recently honoured with the SME Award at the Khmer Enterprise Awards 2024, recognising its exceptional contribution to Cambodia’s business community.
With this investment, Heritage Group aims to guide KGC into its next phase of growth by enhancing production capacity and expanding its market presence both locally and internationally. This partnership aligns with Heritage Group’s vision of fostering sustainable development while supporting Cambodia’s economic progress.
Oknha Chan Sokheang, Chairman of Heritage Group, stated:
At Heritage Group we believe innovation and sustainability must go hand in hand. Our investment in KGC reflects this commitment and we are excited to support its growth as a model for responsible business in Cambodia.
Since its establishment in 2012, KGC has emerged as a leader in sustainable charcoal production, reducing deforestation, lowering CO2 emissions and creating job opportunities for underprivileged communities. This new partnership will enable KGC to:
- Scale operations: invest in advanced technologies to meet increasing demand.
- Expand market reach: strengthen its presence in Cambodia and explore new opportunities internationally.
“This collaboration marks an exciting new chapter for KGC. Heritage Group’s vision and expertise bring immense value, paving the way for a bright future," said Carlo Figà Talamanca, Founder of KGC, expressing his optimism over the investment.
Oknha Chan Sokheang added, “This investment is more than a business transaction; it’s a commitment to a sustainable future. Together, we will pave the way for a greener and more prosperous Cambodia.”
