Air Cambodia, the Kingdom’s national flag carrier, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) to purchase up to 20 C909 regional jets.

The deal includes 10 confirmed orders and 10 intended orders, according to COMAC’s official WeChat account.

The agreement outlines cooperation on aircraft introduction, delivery, operational support, and industry development—marking a significant milestone for both sides. The deal comes after an earlier proposal for Cambodia to purchase 10 Boeing jets from the United States as part of a tariff-linked arrangement.

Formerly known as Cambodia Angkor Air, Air Cambodia is the only Cambodian airline certified under the IATA Operational Safety Audit, and the only carrier awarded a three-star Skytrax rating. With this agreement, it will become the fourth international operator of the C909, joining Indonesia’s TransNusa, Laos’ flag carrier Lao Airlines, and Vietnam’s VietJet Air.

The C909 is a 90-seat regional jet that first entered commercial service in China in 2016. As of June 28, 2025, COMAC has delivered 166 aircraft, now flying on more than 700 routes and carrying over 24 million passengers.

In Southeast Asia, the C909 began operations in 2023, covering 15 routes across 18 cities and serving more than 370,000 passengers.

While the C909 has steadily expanded its footprint in Asia, it has yet to secure certification in the United States and Europe. Financial details and delivery timelines for Air Cambodia’s order were not disclosed.
