First-Ever Cambodian Cable Car Project Being Explored In Kampot
Doppelmayr Group, who signed a representation agreement in Cambodia with Confluences in Q1 2022, are exploring a potential first Cambodian cable-car project in Kampot on Bokor Mountain with Cambodian Sokimex Investment Group.
Doppelmayr Group are considered a leading international ropeways manufacturer, and we have spoken with them and Confluences previously about potential Cambodian mobility projects, but this week all involved parties posted online about the potential development of the cable-car development in southern Cambodia.
Neak Oknha Sok Kong, Chairman of Sokimex Investment Group, authorised Doppelmayr and Confluences to conduct a study on the cable car project at Bokor Mountain said the group. They discussed the development of the cable car system after a site visit to study the technical and economic feasibility of the project stated Sokimex Investment. The project is being led by Oknha SAY Sopheatra, Vice Chairman of Sokimex Investment Group.
Doppelmayr and Confluences have previously looked at a cable car or mobility solution at the Bay Of Lights project in Sihanoukville after signing a letter of intent with Canopy Sands Development in 2023.
Why is Bokor Mountain Being Explored as a Cable-Car Location
Both Confluences and Sokimex have said that the project's main objective would ultimately be to increase Kampot as a tourism attraction and that Preah Monivong Bokor National Park could be a suitable location to entice domestic and international visitors.
Furthermore, if completed, the cable car project would create new job opportunities and Sokimex Investment Group stated, “Oknha Sok Kong has the vision to strive to develop and invest in Bokor Mountain to become a tourist destination that attracts both domestic and international tourists to visit its natural tourism areas, religious tourism sites, and many important historical tourism sites in Bokor Mountain.”
