EuroCham Cambodia, in collaboration with its Transport & Logistics Committee, is intensifying its engagement in Cambodia’s maritime logistics sector following recent momentum in the express and transport industries.

On May 1, 2025, a EuroCham delegation travelled to Sihanoukville to meet with leadership at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS) to discuss ongoing and future development plans.

The visit, initiated at the invitation of H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, followed concerns raised during the recent Cambodia–EU Public-Private Sector Dialogue about the port’s capacity to handle the increasing demands resulting from shifting sourcing patterns in the region.

H.E. Lou Kimchhun, Chairman and CEO of the PAS, welcomed the EuroCham delegation and delivered a comprehensive briefing on the port’s operations and upcoming infrastructure projects. These include the expansion of berths and the acquisition of modern machinery aimed at improving port efficiency. The PAS is expected to reach a handling capacity of 3 million TEUs by 2032, positioning it as a key regional logistics hub.

Representing EuroCham Cambodia, Tassilo Brinzer (Vice-chairman) and Rutger Heijsteeg (Vice-Chairman, Transport & Logistics Committee and Managing Director, Maersk Cambodia) provided feedback on port operations and shared recommendations to address current bottlenecks. Among the proposed solutions was the introduction of a trusted truck driver registration system and a dual-window approach – with one lane dedicated exclusively to registered drivers – to ease congestion and improve turnaround times at the port.

EuroCham reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the optimisation of port logistics through continued dialogue and collaboration with PAS and relevant stakeholders.

“It is our joint intention to support PAS to be the most efficient port, the most cost-effective port and therewith the most competitive port, since this will positively impact the costs of the logistics position of Cambodia," said Heijsteeg, while reflecting on the visit. “Especially in light of increasing import taxes, this is an absolute must to continue the country’s economic growth. As [EuroCham's] Transport & Logistics Committee, we therefore offer utmost support, backed by our industry leading members who have the knowledge and resources available to help when and where needed.”
