Chungbuk Global Centre Paves Path for Cambodian Students to Study and Work in Korea

The Chungbuk Global Center in Cambodia was launched on May 23, 2025, at the Cambodia-Korea Cooperation Centre (CKCC). The newly formed centre will provide full support for Cambodian students to successfully settle and study in Korea, while engaged in future planning.
The launch event was attended by Cambodian officials, Korean university representatives, and education stakeholders, celebrating a milestone in international academic cooperation.
The Chungbuk Global Centre was established through a collaboration between the Chungcheongbuk-do Provincial Government and local universities in South Korea. The centre currently has an office in Vietnam, and has now launched one in Cambodia.
Chungcheongbuk-do is known as a region with modern industrial capacity, home to semiconductor facilities, biodigesters, electrical power plants, cosmetics, research institutes, and 18 universities that provide skills training.
Yang Shin Woong, CEO of SM Global Foundation, stated, “At the heart of the centre’s mission, the Chungbuk Global Centre strives to create opportunities for Cambodian youth—and youth across Asia—to grow together with Korea.
We believe that education is more than personal achievement. It is a powerful force that transforms families and societies and fosters mutual understanding and cooperation between nations. We hope you will not only study in Korea but also realise your potential, embrace new cultures, and grow as global citizens
He added, “There will surely be challenges along the way, but those experiences will shape you, strengthen you, and prepare your steps toward a bigger world.”
The Chungbuk Global Centre will provide robust systems and full support for students to settle in Korea, adapting to local culture, laws, and academic studies. Additionally, the centre will support career opportunities in Korea.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, Under Secretary of State, H.E. Dr. Som Ratana, stated that the launch of the Chungbuk Global Centre marks a significant step forward in educational cooperation between Cambodia and the Republic of Korea.
“This centre is more than just a place – it is a window for Cambodian youth to access new educational and cultural horizons. We are truly grateful for this opportunity," he said.
Dr. Ratana added that this program will give Cambodian high school and university students a chance to pursue advanced studies in Korea, experience high-quality education, and be exposed to broader career and life opportunities.
He emphasised that Korea has long been known for its academic excellence and dynamic society, so he is confident Cambodian students will gain invaluable knowledge, experiences, and skills through this exchange.
He also spoke about the Cambodian government's ‘Higher Education Vision 2030’ policy, and the ‘Cambodia Higher Education Roadmap 2030 and Beyond’, which have the goal to increase enrolment rates in higher education institutions to 25 per cent by 2030.
“As Cambodia strives to become a knowledge-based middle-income country, higher education plays a crucial role in producing capable graduates who can contribute meaningfully to national development and compete effectively in the global workforce. Although Cambodia is strengthening its higher education, international partnerships remain essential,” Dr. Ratana added.
