Cambodia’s Capital Phnom Penh Listed In Top Ten ‘Trending Destinations’ Of 2024 By Tripadvisor

The Cambodian capital secured the ninth spot among the top ten 'Trending Destinations - World' list on Tripadvisor. This recognition is attributed to the city's reasonably priced accommodations, as well as its temples and other historical sites.

The winners of Tripadvisor’s Travelers' Choice Awards Best of the Best 2024 are those destinations with hotels, restaurants, and travel activities that receive a high volume of “above-and-beyond” reviews and opinions from community members over a 12-month period.
The company has stated that fewer than 1 per cent of Tripadvisor's 8 million listings are awarded Best of the Best, signifying a high level of excellence in travel.

Aside from the budget-minded offerings, Cambodia has a number of top hotels where the price and quality are up to international standards. In January 2024, Raffles Hotel Le Royal in Cambodia was voted 24th 'World's Best City Hotels' in 2023 by the UK-based ‘Luxury Lifestyle Magazine’.
In 2023, Condé Nast Traveller readers rated the top 10 hotels in Southeast Asia, and recognised three hotels from the Kingdom, including Rosewood Phnom Penh.
The 2023 World Travel Awards also recognised Cambodia in a number of different categories, winning as ‘Asia’s Leading Cultural Destination’ and ‘Asia’s Leading Youth Travel Destination’, while Phnom Penh was shortlisted for the ‘Asia’s Leading Emerging Tourism Destination 2023’ award as well.
Beyond the capital city, Cambodia is particularly known for being home to a number of UNESCO-listed World Heritage Sites, including the Angkor Archaeological Park, Preah Vihear temple, Sambo Prey Kok temple, and the recently listed Koh Ker temple.

Asia appeared as the top region for 2024's emerging travel hotspots, dominating eight of the top 10 spots in Tripadvisor’s list of the world's trending destinations, which identifies locations that have experienced the highest year-on-year growth in interest. Central and South America are the only other regions to make the top 10 in the list, with Bogota, Colombia at No. 6 and Alajuela, Costa Rica at No. 8. The top 10 list is as follows:- Tokyo, Japan

In addition to top Trending Destinations of 2024, Tripadvisor also released lists of its various other travel categories such as favourite honeymoon destinations, cultural destinations, food destinations and sustainable locations:- Dubai was named the Top Destination in the World for the third consecutive year, making it the favourite destination among Tripadvisor reviewers;
- Copenhagen, Denmark and Stockholm, Sweden were recognised as the leading sustainable destinations worldwide;
- For honeymooners, Bali, Indonesia and Hoi An, Vietnam were the top choices;
- Kathmandu, Nepal claimed the top spot among nature destinations, followed closely by Halong Bay, Vietnam;
- Cuba emerged as the top destination for those seeking cultural experiences, with Cusco, Peru as a close runner-up;
- Hanoi, Vietnam was rated as the best food destination in the world, with Rome, Italy securing second place.
