Cambodia has ranked 5th among countries offering the cheapest mobile data prices around the world. The Kingdom also offers the lowest data prices in Southeast Asia in 2023. 

According to a report released by Cable.co.uk, which analysed 5,603 mobile data plans across 237 countries from July 5 to September 6, 2023, Cambodia currently offers one of the most affordable rates for 1 GB of mobile data. 

The report highlights that Israel has the cheapest mobile data available in the world, with an average cost of USD $0.02 per 1 GB, while Zimbabwe has the most expensive, with an average cost of USD $43.75 per 1 GB. In comparison, Cambodia's average cost for 1 GB of mobile data is only USD $0.12.

Comparing Mobile Data Costs Across ASEAN Countries

Cambodia boasts the lowest average cost of mobile data in Southeast Asia, at USD $0.12 per 1 GB. Cambodia is followed by:

  • Laos: USD $0.25
  • Indonesia and Malaysia: USD $0.28
  • Vietnam: USD $0.29
  • Thailand: USD $0.41
  • The Philippines: USD $0.59
  • Singapore: USD $0.63
  • Myanmar: USD $0.99
  • Brunei: USD $1.89

Comparing Mobile Data Speeds Across ASEAN Countries

According to the Speedtest Global Index by Ookla, Cambodia currently ranks 92nd in the world for fastest mobile data speed, with an average speed of 25.08 Mbps across local mobile data providers. 

This is the third slowest mobile data speed average recorded among ASEAN countries. The full list of average mobile data speeds among ASEAN member countries and their global rankings, as of September 2023, is as follows:

  • Brunei ranks 12th with an average speed of 102.82 Mbps
  • Singapore ranks 23rd with an average speed of 85.69 Mbps
  • Malaysia ranks 41st with an average speed of 61.5 Mbps
  • Vietnam ranks 58th with an average speed of 44.13 Mbps
  • Thailand ranks 61st with an average speed of 40.67 Mbps
  • Laos ranks 84th with an average speed of 27.1 Mbps
  • The Philippines ranks 86th with an average speed of 26.36
  • Cambodia ranks 92nd with an average speed of 25.08 Mbps
  • Indonesia ranks 98th with an average speed of 23.98 Mbps
  • Myanmar ranks 99th with an average speed of 23.86 Mbps

Cheapest Mobile Data Prices in the World

The five countries with the lowest average costs for 1 GB of mobile data are:

  • Israel (USD $0.02)
  • Italy (USD $0.09)
  • Fiji (USD $0.09)
  • San Marino (USD $0.10)
  • Cambodia (USD $0.12).

Italy offers the most affordable mobile data in Western Europe and is also responsible for the mobile data infrastructure in San Marino. Israel, on the other hand, not only leads the way in 5G provisions but also maintains its position as the global leader in terms of data pricing.

Highest Mobile Data Prices In The World

The five countries with the highest average cost of 1 GB of mobile data are Zimbabwe (USD $43.75), the Falkland Islands (USD $40.58), Saint Helena (USD $40.13), South Sudan (USD $23.70), and Tokelau (USD $17.24). Notably, three out of these five nations are located in Sub-Saharan Africa, and three are islands. 

Sub-Saharan Africa ranks as the fourth-most expensive region worldwide for mobile data, while island nations tend to have higher data costs as well.
