Cambodia Begins Official Roll Out of 5G Services
The roll out of 5G services in Cambodia officially began on January 1, 2026, marking a new era of connectivity in the Kingdom.
The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC), along with Cambodia's three major mobile phone operators—Cellcard, Smart and Metfone—announced the launch of 5G services on December 5, 2025, during the Digital Government Forum (DGF).
According to the MPTC, the first phase of the 5G roll out will begin in Phnom Penh and key areas of Siem Reap, Kandal, Svay Rieng, Kompong Speu, Takeo, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Prey Veng, Kratie, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Preah Sihanouk, Steung Treng and Kampot. Service coverage will then continue to expand across the whole country.
Benefits of 5G include a faster internet service than 4G, higher capacity for device connections, low latency, and higher response times.
The MPTC believe 5G services will make a significant contribution to Cambodia's digital development, in accordance with the government's Pentagonal Strategy–Phase 1, Digital Economic and Society Policy Framework 2021-2035, and Digital Government Policy 2022-2035.
