The Born for Greatness team has announced the launch of a silent auction of 21 one-of-a-kind artworks created by professional artists as part of the "I am great" art competition, which saw artists select and mentor talented at-risk kids from partnering NGOs. Each auctioned art piece is inspired by the experience shared by the kid-artist tandems.

According to a press release issued by the Born for Greatnmess team, all proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to Tiny Toones, with the aim of sustaining the school for decades to come. Tiny Toones has supported at-risk kids in Phnom Penh for nearly 20 years.

Launched by the CICC, in collaboration with five local NGOs and a group of passionate artists, Born for Greatness aims to send a simple yet powerful message to the kids: that we are all born for greatness.

“The journey began with a fun learning day back on August 3rd of last year, where 200 at-risk children from five NGOs expressed their vision of greatness in a drawing contest," explained Moran Hadad, President of the CICC and initiator of the Born for Greatness program. "Amazed by the talent shown by the kids, we decided to pursue this road, select 40 of the most creative drawings, and organise an art competition for professional artists called ‘I am Great’. The artists were invited to draw inspiration from the kids’ drawings, translating these original concepts into their own refined pieces of art. This enriching experience resulted in the 21 creative and unique art pieces auctioned as of today."

“Born for Greatness is a statement, our main mission. Other than raising funds for Tiny Toones, it is to help the kids understand that greatness is within every one of us and that deploying it is a mission they will have to take on,” Hadad continued. “We believe that developing the kids’ artistic curiosity and expressing their vision of greatness through art, will allow them, in the long run, to better face adversity and believe in their capacity to turn their lives around and be great."

About Born Greatness

The Born Greatness campaign is a socially driven initiative aiming to provide a platform for underprivileged children to understand, believe in, and develop their potential. It allows them to be the best version of themselves and become contributing members of Cambodian society.

“I feel honoured and proud to be able to take an active part and lead this phase of the project," said Pheakna Leap, Head of the Born for Greatness program. “Witnessing the kids’ happiness and how their horizons widen during their one-on-one interaction with the artists. The simple fact that the artists dedicated their time to them, listened to their expression of greatness, and believed in their vision,  gave them a great deal of confidence. Watching them open up was truly inspiring. Cambodian creativity is not a myth, and implementing our program allowed us to extend the reach of that creativity and lead to a reflection on greatness as it is seen by the Cambodian people.”
