AirAsia Launches Phuket-Siem Reap Route
AirAsia announced the launch of a new route from the Thailand island of Phuket to Siem Reap, Cambodia with three weekly flights starting from October 29, 2024.
The launch of the new route to Cambodia was announced along with AirAsia's new route from Thailand's Don Mueang airport to Hyderabad, a major center for the technology industry in India, with four flights per week starting from October 27, 2024. Earlier in July 2024, AirAsia also launched a Bangkok (Don Mueang)-Phu Quoc route to Vietnam.
In May 2024, AirAsia launched domestic flights in Cambodia under the AurAsia Cambodia business, connecting Phnom Penh to Siem Reap and Sihanoukville, the same month Emirates Airlines resumed its flights to Phnom Penh International Airport via Singapore, marking a return to its pre-pandemic operations.
The launch of new routes to Siem Reap from Phuket is said to be due to the demand for tourists to visit Cambodia's most popular destinations such as Angkor Wat, and this new route should facilitate travelers from Phuket to Siem Reap.
Tansita Akraritpirom, Head of Commercial for Thai AirAsia, said AirAsia is committed to expanding its international reach, especially in the Cambodian and Indian markets where there is significant potential, with 91 per cent of routes being international and 89 per cent being within ASEAN.
"We have seen considerable growth overall on the international sector with our capacity now close to that of 2019. This is in part due to positive measures by the government such as visa-free entry and fifth freedom negotiations, which have made travel easier and more cost-effective, creating an opportunity for travelers to explore new experiences in different countries," she said.
She added, “we have seen an overwhelming response from Thai travelers looking to explore foreign destinations as well as visitors from those countries coming to Thailand.”
For direct flights to Cambodia, AirAsia offers flights from Kuala Lumpur to Sihanoukville and AirAsia Thailand offers three routes to two cities: Bangkok (Don Mueang)-Phnom Penh, Bangkok (Don Mueang)-Siem Reap, and Phuket-Siem Reap.
