About Lord Green
Lord Green is responsible for all matters relating to British trade and investment, the role is shared between the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).
His Lordship’s main responsibilities include:
· Commercial and Economic Diplomacy Department
· Economics Unit
· UK Trade & Investment
· UK Export Finance (UKEF) - formal name: Export Credits Guarantee Department (ECGD)
· spokesman for the government on trade and investment issues in the House of Lords
· core member of the FCO and BIS Ministerial teams providing advice on business policy
· Chair of the Council of Business Ambassadors
From 1977, Lord Green worked in Europe, North America and the Middle East with McKinsey and Co, management consultants. He joined HSBC in 1982 and became Group Treasurer of HSBC Holdings PLC in 1992, with responsibility for the Group’s treasury and capital markets businesses globally.
He became Group Chief Executive in 2003 and Group Chairman in 2006. He was a director of HSBC Bank PLC, the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited and of HSBC North America Holdings Inc. Lord Green became Chairman of the British Bankers’ Association in November 2006.
In 2010, he was elected Deputy President of the Confederation of British Industry, and the Vice-Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce.
