IP Enforcement, Infringement and Beyond
Cambodia’s recent and much-lauded accession to the Madrid Protocol and the grant of her first patent heralds, perhaps, one small step for the global IP market, but one giant leap for the country. Why? Clear, transparent and robust IPR protection and enforcement mechanisms are paramount both to foreign investors into Cambodia and the country’s entrepreneurial youth, without which the fundamental trade-off that sits at the heart of any functioning IPR system – that of protecting rights-holders and stimulating innovation and market growth – cannot be achieved.
