The First Cambodia EdTech Summit Opens To Promote New Pathways For The Future Of Cambodia’s Digital Education

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC), KOICA, UNICEF, UNESCO, CDRI, World Bank, UK international Development and Cellcard, inaugurated the First Cambodia EdTech Summit, on February 17, 2025, at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC).
Held under the theme “Pathways to Cambodia’s Digital Education”, the two-day summit (February 17-18) aims to disseminate the Digital Education Strategy for Schools (DESS), seek inputs on the development of the EdTech Framework, foster discussions and knowledge sharing, showcase best practices in EdTech, and strengthen collaboration between policymakers, development partners, EdTech providers and users, contributing to the advancement of digital education in Cambodia.
During the summit's opening ceremony, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, stated that his ministry is making efforts to integrate digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) into the education system, as well as using ICT technology to address the lack of teachers.

“Our goal is to facilitate our youth in grasping new life skills in digital technology, especially in AI, in response to the job market,” he said.
He referenced a study which forecasts that by 2030, 30 per cent of jobs in Europe and the United States will be automated with AI technology, which will result in the loss of some jobs and skills, but also usher in the development of new skills.
“If our youth are not prepared, then they won’t be able to catch up with the development of this technology," added Dr. Hang Chuon Naron.
The reason we organised this forum is to promote this technology more broadly to the new generation, especially among teachers and teacher training institutions, highlighting the opportunity to integrate digital technology and AI into teacher training.
However, the minister also heeded cautious on the sole use of AI, stating: “We cannot rely just on AI over real intelligence,” and further stressed the irreplaceability of humans' decision making power.
