Samaiden Energy (Cambodia) Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Samaiden Group Bhd, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Royal Group Co Ltd, Management Venture Asia (Cambodia) Ltd, and Panna Energy Sdn Bhd to explore the development of renewable energy and sustainable economic activities in Cambodia.
The focus will be to develop the unutilised land alongside railway tracks from Poipet province to Preah Sihanouk province - there are 300km of railway tracks which are operated by Royal Railway PLC - hence the MoU was held in a train carriage (see video below).
The project aims to create job opportunities and promote economic growth through the installation of micro-ground mount solar systems, infrastructure development for rental, tree planting, greenhouse farming of vegetables, soybean farming, and other sustainable activities. The involved parties will conduct a feasibility study to determine the viability of the project, and Samaiden is committed to utilising its expertise in renewable energy projects, including solar PV systems and power plants, operations and maintenance, and environmental consulting services to support the initiative. This project aligns with the Cambodian government's support for renewable energy and its initiatives to promote higher incomes for citizens through economic projects. Samaiden, which won the ASEAN Energy Award in 2017, is a Clean Energy provider incorporated in 2013, primarily involved in the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of solar photovoltaic systems and power plants. The group also provides renewable energy and environmental consulting services, as well as operation and maintenance services.
The project presents an excellent opportunity for Cambodia to invest in renewable energy and sustainable economic activities, creating new job opportunities and promoting sustainable development in the country. As the world moves towards clean energy, it is encouraging to see companies like Samaiden taking the lead in the field of renewable energy. Fong Yeng Foon, the executive director of Samaiden Cambodia, said, "We are encouraged by the Cambodian government's support and initiatives towards renewable energy and its commitment to help its citizens to earn higher income through projects such as the development of land alongside Royal Railway's tracks. Samaiden stands ready to offer our expertise in renewable energy projects, encompassing solar PV systems and power plants, operations and maintenance, and environmental consulting services."
The collaboration between Samaiden Energy (Cambodia) Co Ltd, Royal Group Co Ltd, Management Venture Asia (Cambodia) Co., Ltd, and Panna Energy Sdn Bhd presents a significant opportunity for Cambodia to invest in renewable energy and sustainable economic activities, promoting job creation and economic growth. Samaiden's expertise in renewable energy projects will be essential in ensuring the success of the project and achieving the goals of promoting sustainable development in the country.
Renewable Energy Cambodia
Cambodia is estimated to require an investment of USD $3 billion in the energy sector until 2040 to meet its energy demands. The government has prioritised renewable energy projects. The government has said that by 2021, renewable energy was used for approximately 40 per cent of its total energy needs, including hydropower, solar energy and biomass.
